Dr. Negin Akbarin was born in Potomac, Maryland, where her passion for the sciences and helping others evolved at an early age. She initially attended the University of Delaware and later transferred to the University of Houston, where she graduated with her bachelor's degree in political science and business administration. Although she initially planned to enroll in law school, a period of self-reflection led her to realize her true calling in patient care and she ultimately followed her heart which led her towards the optometric profession. After being accepted to multiple optometry programs, Dr. Akbarin chose to stay in Texas and enroll in the University of Houston College of Optometry. Due to her excellent academic performance in optometry school, Dr. Akbarin was awarded several prestigious scholarships including the Charles Briggs Optometric Scholarship and Kevin McDaid Optometric Scholarship.
In her last year of optometry school, Dr. Akbarin completed rotations at McCormick Vision Source and Lakeline Vision Source in Austin, Texas. Those experiences in private practice really drove home Dr. Akbarin’s passion for being able to practice full-scope optometry in a private setting. After graduating from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2020, she stayed in the Houston area where she has been delivering exceptional care ever since.
Her clinical interests include treating dry eye disease, glaucoma, contact lenses, and diabetic retinopathy; areas where she strives to provide the highest quality of care. Fluent in both English and Farsi, Dr. Akbarin is able to connect with a diverse range of patients, further enhancing her ability to provide personalized care. Dr. Akbarin prioritizes connecting with her patients and believes that building strong relationships while cultivating individualized treatment plans with her patients is the cornerstone of effective healthcare.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Akbarin loves spending time at the beach; a pleasant reminder of where she spent most of her summers growing up. She also enjoys being with her family who reside in Houston and hanging out with her two cats at home to unwind. To help serve her community, Dr. A recently joined an animal rescue organization to help lost or abandoned animals get the medical care and loving homes they all deserve. Other pastimes include exploring local coffee shops, listening to live music, and hiking. Dr. Akbarin also enjoys traveling and learning about other cultures. She credits her outstanding work ethic to her parents, who have owned their own business since she was a young child, instilling in her the values of dedication and perseverance.
